Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up, no login, and no server. Open the app and go — everything runs on your device.
Does it use the internet?
No. The Android app doesn't even request the INTERNET permission, and the Apple apps make no network calls. Nothing you do leaves your device. See the privacy policy.
What is a MeowGram?
A MeowGram is an ordinary-looking cat photo with a secret message hidden invisibly inside it (using DCT steganography). Pick one of the built-in cats, type your message, and share the image. Whoever receives it opens it in MeowPass to reveal the message.
Is my hidden message secure?
If you add a passphrase, the message is encrypted with ChaCha20-Poly1305 (key derived via HKDF-SHA256) before it's hidden — only someone with the passphrase can read it. Without a passphrase, the message is hidden but not encrypted.
Can iOS and Android send MeowGrams to each other?
Yes. The steganography and crypto are byte-for-byte compatible across platforms — a MeowGram made on an iPhone decodes on Android and vice-versa.
My MeowGram won't decode — why?
The hidden data lives in the image's pixels, so it only survives lossless transfer. Some chat apps re-compress photos, which can destroy the message. Send the MeowGram as a file/document (or via a service that keeps the original PNG) rather than as a compressed photo.
